Established by Carolyn and Ron Yokubaitis in 2010, VyprVPN was built by Golden Frog, a company that operated out of Switzerland for its strict privacy laws before the service was acquired by Certida in 2023. It is still best known for two things: an entirely self-owned server network and the proprietary Chameleon protocol, which scrambles VPN metadata to defeat deep packet inspection.
Our VyprVPN review looks at a fast and secure no-log VPN, one that uses WireGuard, OpenVPN and IPsec among its protocols, with Chameleon for stealth. It was also one of the first services to publish an independent audit of its zero-logging claims, when Leviathan Security examined the platform in 2018. Since the Certida acquisition, however, independent reviewers have flagged two changes that matter: the jurisdiction moved back to the United States, and the no-logs promise no longer carries a recent independent audit. We weigh both below.
We take a look under the surface to see whether VyprVPN is still a premium front-runner, or a title by name only. For the short version, see our best VPN for Australia roundup.

VyprVPN Pricing
VyprVPN has simplified what it used to offer. There is now a single plan with three billing terms, and the longer you commit, the sharper the price gets. All plans come with the full feature set, including Chameleon and VyprDNS, plus the 30-day money-back guarantee.
| Plan | Price/mo | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| 2-Year (Best Value) | $3.00 | Billed $72 every 2 years |
| 1-Year | $4.00 | Billed $48 every 12 months |
| 1-Month | $10.00 | Billed monthly |
Pricing verified 17 October 2026 against vyprvpn.com/pricing. Prices are in USD; Australian buyers are charged in USD at checkout, converted at the current exchange rate.
The monthly plan sits in line with other premium providers, and it is the 1-year term, and especially the 2-year term, where VyprVPN becomes genuinely competitive. At $3/month the 2-year plan undercuts most rivals while keeping every feature. Add in the 30-day money-back guarantee, and it makes the service a highly attractive offering.
One long-standing limitation remains: there are no cryptocurrency options. You pay by credit card or PayPal, and that is the full list. There are also no add-on extras like static IP addresses; what is on offer is included in the one plan.

Key Features
Protocol Support
VyprVPN protects users with AES 256-bit encryption. The current protocol line-up is WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPsec and the proprietary Chameleon; the older PPTP and L2TP options have been retired. An automatic kill switch and a server-side NAT firewall round out the stack.
One of VyprVPN’s most significant features is the proprietary Chameleon protocol. It offers everything OpenVPN-style connections do, then adds metadata scrambling so deep packet inspection systems cannot fingerprint the traffic as a VPN. That makes it genuinely useful in countries that block or throttle VPN traffic, including China, Russia, Iran and Turkey, based on the company’s own documentation.
While conducting leak testing, we found no DNS leaks, IP address leaks or WebRTC leaks on any protocol option, a finding top10vpn’s independent testing confirms.
DNS Service
VyprDNS is Golden Frog’s owned and operated DNS service, still exclusive to VyprVPN users. It was developed with zero-knowledge in mind, meaning no records are kept, and it helps defeat DNS-level censorship around the world. Once you connect through the VPN app, VyprDNS is used automatically, so there is no digging through settings.
Platforms Supported
VyprVPN is compatible with most operating systems and now covers the living room too: native apps are available for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV, with the TV apps added in the latest app refresh. Linux users get manual configuration guides, and router setup guides are provided for whole-home coverage.
Device Support
Your account supports 10 simultaneous connections, up from 5 in earlier years, per VyprVPN’s own support documentation (updated June 2026). You can have more than 10 devices logged in, but only 10 can be actively connected at the same time. If you run the VPN on a router, the whole household is covered by that one account.
Ad-Blocking
VyprVPN has no built-in ad blocker. The server-side NAT firewall helps filter unsolicited inbound connections and some malicious traffic instead, which partially makes up for the gap, but ad-heavy users will still want a separate blocker.
Privacy and Security
VyprVPN announced a move to a no-logs policy in 2018 after customer feedback, then hired independent cybersecurity firm Leviathan Security for a full audit. The published results were favourable and confirmed VyprVPN did not collect personally identifiable information, making it one of the first services in the industry to publish an independent audit of its zero-logging claims.
That history matters, because the picture has changed since. In 2023 VyprVPN was acquired by Certida LLC, and VyprVPN’s own site now credits Certida in its footer. Independent reviewers report the jurisdiction moved to the United States, inside the intelligence-sharing alliances you can read about in our 5/9/14 Eyes explainer, and top10vpn’s April 2026 update rates the current privacy policy just 4.1/10, noting there is no recent independent verification of the no-logging claim. The official site still promises “Absolutely No-Logs … ever!” and a no-log VyprDNS, but that promise now rests on the company’s word rather than a fresh audit.
In our own experience, the account data kept is the minimum needed to run the service: your name, email address and payment details for billing and refunds. On cancellation, VyprVPN deletes your data; we confirmed this first-hand when we ended our subscription, where other providers often continue to share such data with third parties.
For security, the automatic kill switch blocks all internet traffic the moment the VPN connection drops, and the server-side NAT firewall stops unrequested inbound connections without any configuration on your part. If you are privacy-sensitive, weigh the missing recent audit accordingly; if you are a casual user, the encryption and leak protection remain technically sound.
Ease of Use
Sign-Up
Signing up is straightforward. Head to the VyprVPN payments page, select your term, and enter your name, email address and password. Below those boxes sit the payment options, and after checkout you receive an order confirmation with download links and setup instructions.
Setup and User Interface
VyprVPN is easy to set up on all supported devices, and the tutorials make things easier if you are configuring a platform without a native app. When you open the app, a quick tutorial walks you through the essentials. The Windows app automatically selects the fastest server on connection.
The main screen displays server locations and connection status near the top, with a simple interface beneath that opens the server list or settings. Included are auto-connect for untrusted Wi-Fi, the kill switch and malware protections. At the bottom sits the blue connect button, which turns transparent when connected. A handy detail: the server list shows the connection speed for each location, so you can see at a glance which servers will serve you best.
Advanced Features
On the face of it, VyprVPN is thin on gimmicks; most of what it offers is under the surface and included in the single plan.
Chameleon remains the standout, as no mainstream rival offers an equivalent anti-DPI protocol. The kill switch is highly effective for most users, though during our testing we saw occasional odd behaviour when a connection was manually disabled rather than dropped on its own; reviewers have separately noted quirks in the iOS implementation.
Split tunneling is included, so you can choose which traffic goes through the VPN, such as geo-restricted streaming services, while the rest uses your ISP’s connection directly. That is especially handy on a router when some household devices should stay off the VPN.
VyprVPN Cloud extends protection to cloud deployments on Amazon Web Services, Digital Ocean and VirtualBox. Browser extensions were discontinued some time ago, since they could not deliver the same security levels as the full apps.
Performance and Servers
VyprVPN’s network is smaller than the giants, but every part of it is its own: the company owns and operates its servers, hardware, network and VPN infrastructure, with no third parties involved in maintenance. The official site lists 70+ server locations across nearly 70 countries, served by a large pool of shared IP addresses, and there are no limits on server switching or bandwidth.
Speed Test
In our earlier round of testing we measured around 80 to 90 Mbps on local and medium-distance servers using the quick-connect option, falling to 60 to 70 Mbps further afield. Current third-party testing still rates VyprVPN highly on raw speed: top10vpn gives download speeds 9.6/10 and calls them exceptional, while also confirming our finding that long-distance connections show the biggest drop.
Streaming is where the picture has changed since our last review. Recent independent testing (top10vpn, updated April 2026) found BBC iPlayer and HBO Max reliably unblocked, but US Netflix, Hulu and Peacock were blocked at the time of testing. Older claims that US Netflix was reliably accessible are now outdated, so treat streaming coverage as service-by-service and subject to change. Chameleon can help in some cases by hiding the VPN fingerprint, but it is not a guarantee.
Torrenting is allowed and VyprVPN does not throttle BitTorrent traffic, and with session logs absent in principle, there is little on the servers to tie to your activity. Given the ownership and audit situation above, though, we would only torrent with the kill switch on, and privacy-focused torrenters should look at a provider with a current, independently audited no-logs policy such as NordVPN or Private Internet Access.
Customer Service
You can reach VyprVPN’s support through email request forms or 24/7 live chat, both of which left positive impressions in our testing. Email replies came back in under 30 minutes and live chat responses in under 10. The website also offers solid self-help resources: an FAQ page, troubleshooting guides, configuration tutorials and general VPN and privacy information.
FAQ
How much does VyprVPN cost in Australia?
VyprVPN costs $10/month on the monthly plan, $4/month billed as $48 every 12 months, or $3/month billed as $72 on the 2-year plan. Prices are in USD at checkout, converted at the current exchange rate, and every plan carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. A short 3-day free trial has also been reported on the mobile apps.
Who owns VyprVPN now, and is it still safe?
VyprVPN was founded by Golden Frog in 2010 and ran for years out of Switzerland, where it published the industry’s first independent no-logs audit (Leviathan Security, 2018). In 2023 the service was acquired by Certida LLC, and independent reviewers now list its jurisdiction as the United States. The official site still guarantees no logging, but there is no recent independent audit of that claim, so the privacy promise currently rests on the company’s word. Technically, encryption and leak protection tested clean; whether that is enough for you depends on how much weight you put on independent verification.
Does VyprVPN work with Netflix?
Partially. In the most recent independent testing (April 2026), BBC iPlayer and HBO Max were unblocked, but US Netflix, Hulu and Peacock were blocked at the time. Older reviews claiming reliable US Netflix access are outdated. Coverage changes regularly, so assume nothing and test the specific service you want before committing.
How many devices can I connect with one VyprVPN account?
Up to 10 simultaneous connections per account, per VyprVPN’s own support documentation (updated June 2026). You can have more devices logged in, but only 10 can be actively connected at once. Install it on a compatible router and that same account covers every device in the house.
Is This VPN Service for You?
There is a lot to like about VyprVPN in 2026. It remains fast, with a genuinely self-owned network, a unique anti-censorship protocol in Chameleon, clean apps, 10 device slots and a 2-year price of $3/month that undercuts most rivals. For gaming especially, recent independent testing backs up the speed claims.
The honest caveats are ownership and verification. Since the 2023 Certida acquisition, the jurisdiction is the United States again and the no-logs commitment lacks a recent independent audit, while streaming coverage has narrowed. If you are comfortable with VyprVPN’s own guarantees, the 2-year plan is easy to recommend for its value alone. If independent, up-to-date verification of privacy matters more to you, NordVPN is the more reliable all-round alternative, with a no-logs policy audited most recently by Deloitte in late 2025.
