How to Delete Twitter Account Permanently

The recent update in Twitter’s privacy policy has attracted a lot of attention. This step would help in personalizing their services to show the users, content they would like. Of course, the only way to get this personalization is by allowing Twitter to share more information (the user data) to advertisers.

Twitter accountApart from more data sharing, it can store the information it collects about people’s web browsing for up to 30 days which earlier used to be 10 days. But it is also giving more control on how your data is stored and shared. A dedicated section in the “Settings” menu details the information Twitter would use to target the users.

At the same time, Twitter has removed Do Not Track. It was used to prevent advertisers from tracking the browsing history.

Opt out of Personalization

If you don’t want to get personalized services, i.e., you don’t want Twitter to store more of your data, you can disable it. It needs to be done on the app and on the Twitter website if you use both. To do so:twitter privacy

i) Log-in to your account page.
ii) Go to the “Settings and privacy” page.
iii) Select “Privacy and safety.”
iv) Then choose “Personalization and data.” At the top of this page is an option to disable all personalization and data settings.
v) On the website, click the “Disable all” button, and on the mobile app, tap the toggle switch at the top.

You can also see the location data and various interests Twitter has collected about you. It is accessible in “Your Twitter data” section of the “Settings and privacy” page. On the app, it is available as “See your twitter data” option at the bottom of “Personalization and data” page. You can view, edit and delete those interests, Twitter has collected about you.

Increase privacy of the account

Apart from the matter of Twitter selling your data, people are also concerned about the visibility of the tweets.
You can always make your account private and hide your tweets to the public. It would be available only to the followers you have confirmed. But by default, all the tweets are public and can easily be indexed by search engines.

Your tweets are available to everyone and can be embedded in third-party websites as mentioned in Twitter’s Terms of Service: “This license is you authorizing us to make your Tweets on the Twitter Services available to the rest of the world and to let others do the same.”

Making the account private would kill the essence of Twitter in the first place. So, in my opinion, it’s better to keep it public and be careful in what you are tweeting to the world. Check these options you have:Tweet location

• Tweet location: You can select whether to post the location of the tweet or not.
• Photo-tagging: You can select who can tag you in photos.
• Discoverability: It lets you allow or not to enable people to discover your account using the email address or phone number.

These options are all available in the “Privacy and safety” section of the “Settings and privacy” page. And if you want to make your account a private one, activate the “Protect my tweets” option from the same list.
